While Rachel concedes that most Americans have never heard of Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chair of the House Judiciary Committee, she correctly pointed him out on Tuesday as the man responsible for obstructing President Obama’s biggest second term goal, reforming our broken immigration process that tears apart families and denies millions of hopefuls a chance at the American Dream.
“This seems like a process story and it’s not getting much press because he’s not that famous. But he’s the head of the committee who has to make that happen. And he’s saying no. And this is a huge moment on a huge issue — arguably the hugest issue in Washington for four years. And the Republicans are flat-out saying, ‘Nope, don’t care, we aren’t gonna do it.’”
Maddow pointed out that Goodlatte’s, the “gatekeeper” of the House, has vowed to oppose any and all forms of immigration reform, and especially “a special pathway to citizenship” for the countries 11 million undocumented immigrants passed by the Senate.
Adding insult to injury, he has vowed to not even allow the bill to come up for a vote in the Tea Party House.
“On their heads will fall the political consequences, probably for a generation,” she said.
This corrupt corporatist has been allowed to nearly anonymously towards our political process and subvert the will of the American people long enough.
It’s time that America learns about the “gatekeeper” of the Tea Party House who helps John Boehner and Paul Ryan do the bidding of multinational corporations and international banks.
If Bills from the Democratically-controlled Senate do not get past this man, they do not get past this committee. If they do not get past this committee, they do not get voted on in the House. If they do not get voted on in the House, they will never get to Pres. Obama’s desk to be signed into law.
It is imperative that America hears Rachel’s timely warning, because the common misconception that immigration reform will certainly be passed by Congress is simply untrue. We must pressure the Tea Party House and Rep. Goodlatte to do what is right for America, or else immigration reform will never even go up for a vote.
