PUTIN HAS FOUND AN ALLY: BIGOT, PAT BUCHANAN

FROM AMERICABLOG

Putin has finally found an ally: arch-conservative omniphobe Pat Buchanan

One of America’s premier omniphobes, uber-conservative Pat Buchanan, has weighed in on the side of Vladimir Putin’s war on gay and trans Russiansthe Olympics, and more generally most of the civilized world.
In a rather long screed on the conservative site Townhall, Buchanan really goes to town in his defense of the former KGB head’s homophobia.

Buchanan starts with a longing for the good ole days of 1776:
Our moral and cultural elites have put Putin on notice: Get in step with us on homosexual rights — or we may just boycott your Sochi games.
What this reveals is the distance America has traveled, morally and culturally, in a few short years, and our amnesia about who we Americans once were, and what it is we once believed.
Only yesterday, homosexual sodomy, which Thomas Jefferson said should be treated like rape, was outlawed in many states and same-sex marriage was regarded as an absurdity.
Yeah, well, Thomas Jefferson had slaves too.
And “only yesterday” inter-racial marriage was considered an absurdity, and still is among Buchanan’s Republican party faithful in Mississippi, where 46% of Republicans polled still think it should be illegal for the races to co-mingle.
More from Herr Buchanan, where he gets to the point of the matter – Buchanan thinks he’s finally found a kindred spirit in his quest for imposing a Christian version of Iran’s mullah-ocracy on the world:
Putin is trying to re-establish the Orthodox Church as the moral compass of the nation it had been for 1,000 years before Russia fell captive to the atheistic and pagan ideology of Marxism.
“The adoption of Christianity,” declared Putin, “became a turning point in the fate of our fatherland, made it an inseparable part of the Christian civilization and helped turn it into one of the largest world powers.”
Yeah, then 1991 happened.  Russia’s problem isn’t that it lost faith.  If anything, Russia found faith once communism was overthrown.  Russia’s problem is that its “great power” status came from its Cold War bubble economy based on outlandish military spending it couldn’t afford.  If anything, Russia more of a world power when it embraced “godless communism.”
As for Buchanan, Putin deserves the company.  Let me walk folks through who exactly Pat Buchanan is, so you can fully appreciate the irony of him being Vladimir Putin’s biggest defender:
Buchanan says the Norwegian terrorists had a point.
Pat Buchanan is upset there are too many Jews on the Supreme Court.
Pat Buchanan says that America “has been a country built basically by white folks.”
Then there’s Buchanan on gays: Gays are hell-bent on satanism, gays get AIDS because they declared war on nature.
Pat Buchanan thinks Latinos exhibit “underclass behavior.”
Lots more on Buchanan and race and immigrants, and gays.
Any my personal favorite: Hitler was a “individual of great courage.”
I’ll give you the full Hitler quote, since Buchanan did issue some criticism of Hitler, but boy was it tempered by the “good” stuff about Hitler:
“Those of us in childhood during the war years were introduced to Hitler only as a caricature…Though Hitler was indeed racist and anti-Semitic to the core, a man who without compunction could commit murder and genocide, he was also an individual of great courage, a soldier’s soldier in the Great War, a leader steeped in the history of Europe, who possessed oratorical powers that could awe even those who despised him. But Hitler’s success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path.”
So, when all is said and done, Buchanan even had good things to say about Hitler. So, good luck with that endorsement, Premier Putin.  You’ve earned it.
