OH MY!
An article published in the New York Times of 11/17/13 is entitled, "In The Fracas Over Heath Coverage, Some Democrats Feel Exposed." (Who knew!) In New Hampshire the federally run exchange has attracted only one insurance provider, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. It has excluded 10 of the state's 26 hospitals from the health plans it offers through the exchange. "Residents in the north of New Hampshire may have to drive an hour to find a hospital or doctor in their network," states the article.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield are, of course, are a capitalistic institution whose bottom line is profit. For them, it only makes dollars and sense to exclude the 10 hospitals. Obviously, if we had a single payer system in the United States, the absurdity of health care delivery in N.H. would not exist. Incidentally, the GOP controlled New Hampshire Senate is blocking the expansion of Medicare under the ACA.
