THOUGHTS ON CONSERVATIVES TEND TO BE FEAR DRIVEN, ANXIOUS

Research showing that conservatives tend to be more fear-driven, anxious, and constricted in their thinking and behavior is fascinating, and in keeping with much psychological and personal understanding.  While many other factors can certainly play a central role in a person having a conservative orientation, e,g, family and economic background, self-interest, educational indoctrination, its political relevance is important, as the cause and effect of the relationship can go both ways.  If people in power create a more fearful, anxious society by emphasizing constant threat at home or abroad, tighten the belt economically by reducing the needed social safety net because of "austerity", force people to struggle more with daily bread and butter issues, the majority of people will out of necessity become more conservative.  Is this what those with a vested interest in our nation becoming more conservative politically have been imposing on our population.  The rise of groups like the Tea Party suggest it is a possibility.
