POLITICIAN'S ROLE MODEL
The framers of The U.S. Constitution were concerned about excessive power in both the Presidency and the military. So, under Article I Section 8, delegates to Congress the power to make war. But since World War II, Presidents have ignored Congress and have engaged in dozens of undeclared wars.
Now, with the media stocking hysteria about non-existent ISIS "sleeper cells" in the U.S., the public - by a large majority- supports a war against them. This is the same U.S. public that supported the Korean War, Viet-Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan, which, polls show now regret their support of these and numerous other unconstitutional, undeclared wars, particularly in Latin America.
(The corrupt U.S militarily backed regimes in El Salvador and Honduras are responsible for the drug cartels, murder, extortion, and thuggery that sends children across U.S. borders for asylum.)
Congress, relying on the excellent judgment of the American people, will not exercise its legal power to approve military action against the Islamic State, aka ISIL or ISIS. (We have trouble naming the enemy that supposedly might set up an Islamic Caliphate in the U.S.!) This allows representatives to not get embroiled in future controversy when the public tires of another war the U.S. cannot win and gets angry with the politicians who supported it.
Tonight, President Obama will announce his plans to bomb ISIS in Syria and Iraq, even though all authorities agree that without "boots on the ground" ISIS will never be defeated militarily. The President says he will not even consult Congress about this action, let alone ask them to declare war. When asked why, yesterday, the President said "My new advisor Dick Cheney and I just had a good laugh about that one."
With mid-term elections around the corner, Representative W.C. Fields, (D.-Broken Urinal GA.) said, "I don't want congress to vote on ISIS, because I would have to put myself on the record. Even though the public wants war many of my constituents don't. I'd be screwed."
Rep. Peter T. Clown (R.-N.Y.), who has constantly blasted Obama for the excessive use of Presidental powers, said, " Let Obama go to war. Maybe we can vote after an American pilot crashes over there. The American people would support war after they see American blood, not foreign dead women and children killed by our bombs at wedding parties. If we vote now it might stir up some Libertarians in my district and hurt my election chances. I oppose a vote on the war for now."
Former congresswoman Jane Harm, D-CA., said of the impending violation of the war powers clause, " I love the Constitution Of The United States but we must not let it get in the way of the enormous profits to be made off a never ending war against ISIS by the Military-Industrial-Complex. It's a form of government welfare for the rich, and as a rich woman I like it."
Generals P. Abbot and G. Costello, speaking for the Pentagon said, "The U.S. hasn't won a war since World War II. Out motto is 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.' Bombing ISIS gives us another chance."
