NRA LIES AND IDIOTIC SUGGESTIONS

NRA LIES AND IDIOTIC SUGGESTIONS.

One could create a long list of NRA lies, such as the United Nations wants to set up a registry for U.S. gun owners.  But suffice it to mention two recent NRA falsehoods.:

Doyle McManus of the L.A. Times points out that  the NRA, in its recent propaganda campaign, is  stoking fears that background checks,  that Obama favors , will lead to a national gun registry, despite the fact that the bill involved specifically states that it will prohibit one.

McManus further states that  the NRA and its supporters claim that  expanded background checks could force fathers to ask permission from the federal government before giving guns to their sons, even thought the Senate proposal exempts family transactions.

Also of great interest is the absurd suggestion, made a few days ago that there be armed guards in every American school.

Credit Mary Noble of Pollitix:
The new NRA-backed recommendations to have a trained armed guard in every school will be prohibitively expensive and unworkable.
The NRA-sponsored “School Shield” report calls for all schools to have either a School Resource Officer (a member of law enforcement), or an armed member of school personnel who’s received 60-80 hours of training.

“The armed guard approach would be prohibitively expensive,” says Erich Pratt, director of communications at Gun Owners of America. “At any one time there are 135,000 police on duty in the country, and there are about that many schools. That shows you how huge of a deal it would be.”
The cost could be upwards of $5 billion dollars, according to Bruce Hunter of the School Superintendents Association, who estimates that each officer costs $50-80,000 per year. Others put the total figure at around $6.6 billion.

At a time of nation-wide educational cutbacks the suggestion that there be armed guards in every school is stupid and absurd.

One can only anticipate what lies and  ridiculous propositions the NRA will put forward as the gun debate continues.
