DIOCESE OF COLUMBUS FIRES LESBIAN TEACHER; BIGOTED CATHOLICS STRIKE AGAIN.
After 19 years of teaching, Carla Hale was fired from her job at Bishop Watterson high school in Columbus, Ohio. Why? Because her mother's obituary mentioned Carla's longtime partner.
Carla Hale, the former physical education teacher at Bishop Watterson High School, talked to NBC4's Mike Bowersock about why she was fired and what may be next.Officials told Carla she was fired for violating moral laws, but she says holding teachers to those standards is a slippery slope:
Hale said she was fired after 19 years, after an obituary for her mother listed the name of a woman as Hale's partner.
Then, on Holy Thursday, she was fired for what is known as Diocesan Policy 45116.1, which states that Catholic school personnel are expected to be examples of moral behavior and her spousal relationship violates the moral laws. You can help Carla Hale get her job back by signing a petition to the Diocese of Columbus.
"They're probably honestly wouldn't be a lot of teachers working here because if you go there, the Catholic Church doesn't promote divorce, living with a heterosexual partner out of marriage, birth control," Hale said.
Diocese of Columbus:We'll send the signatures in the hopes the Diocese of Columbus will comply with the local ordinance barring discrimination and give Carla Hale her job back.
Reinstate faculty member Carla Hale and apologize for discriminating against her on the basis of sexuality.
