Something must be in the water in Florida, because gun power has really gotten out of hand in the sunshine state. A black man by the name of Roy Middleton, 60, was shot in the leg before the wee hours of 3 AM after he was caught rummaging in his mother’s car cushions for a cigarette.
Coincidentally, the Middleton’s neighbors called 911 on Middleton after they saw him getting into the car sitting in front of Middlteton’s home.
Roy recalled hearing the Florida armed deputies demanding him to stick his hands up. The unarmed black man began to back out of the drive way facing the officers as authorities began to aim and fire at the elderly man.
“It was like a firing squad,” Roy told the Pensacola News Journal. “Bullets were flying everywhere.”
In total, the authorities let off seven shots. Five of those bullets  hit the side of  Middleton’s house.
During the shooting, Middleton’s mother, Ceola Walker, was inside the home sleeping.
“I don’t understand how they could fire so many shots at him,” said Walker. “He wasn’t resisting or anything and he was at his own house.”
One of the bullets fired got a hold of Middleton’s leg.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement claims to be investigating the incident and the deputies involved were placed on administrative leave from work.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s office where the officers are employed had no comment on the incident.
Wow, I’m never visiting Florida.
