MICHELE BACHMANN IS HEAD OF THE TEA PARTY CAUCUS IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. ARE THEY ALL AS NUTS AS SHE IS?
Michele Bachmann now worried the IRS will start killing conservatives
By Alex Moore 2 days ago
Michele Bachmann has long maintained that Obamacare would kill people. There was talk of government “death panels” when universal healthcare was being debated back in Obama’s first term, and earlier this year she insisted that in its current form it would “literally kill” people. But all her previous death rants lacked one thing: a motive.
This week, with news of the IRS inappropriately picking on conservative groups filing for tax exempt status, she’s got finally got one. The IRS hates conservatives so much that they won’t simply punk them in their tax-exempt filings, warned Bachmann—they’ll kill them. Through Obamacare.
From Think Progress:
Since the IRS also is the chief enforcer of Obamacare requirements, [Bachmann] asked whether the IRS’s admission means it “will deny or delay access to health care” for conservatives.
At this point, she said, that “is a reasonable question to ask.” […]
[S]hould Americans fear their government may try to harm them if they are conservative?
“It now is an entirely reasonable question for the American people to ask,” she said. “Will Obamacare be so politicized and misused?”
Her theory has more than a few holes, maybe the biggest being that the IRS will not decide which access to grant or deny. It’ll only enforce compliance with people actually purchasing healthcare programs. Which is admittedly way more complicated than it needs to be—I’ve read countless articles over the last year about how Obamacare is supposed to work logistically and I still can’t figure it out. But I’ve figured out enough to know that the IRS won’t be able to decide that Joe in accounting can’t get that cancer treatment because he’s a registered Tea Party member.
Of course, things like basic reality have never stopped Bachmann from relaying pure hearsay and speculative bullshit as fact. Like the time she claimed Obama has a professional dog walker and two full-time projectionists working in the White House. Or the time she said HPV vaccinations lead to “mental retardation.”
Both those whoppers were instances in which Bachmann later said she was just repeating stuff that other people had said, so y’know, don’t blame her, y’all, she was just the messenger. It’s less clear that anyone else is feeding these notions of an Obamacare death squad to Bachmann or whether she’s just pulling this stuff from the puffy clouds floating around that empty noggin of hers. Either way, shit’s bananas.
