Here's one email I want Obama to read
| |||
Dear Friend:
I am not sure why the National Security Agency needs to know that I talk to my mom on Sundays, but last week, we learned that the U.S. government is collecting massive amounts of data about millions of peoples' phone and internet activity. Programs like this raise serious questions about the right to privacy. Demand that Obama unveil the full extent of this massive surveillance program. I don't question the value of preventing terror attacks, but it's hard to imagine what might justify the scale of this operation. We are still waiting for answers on the basic details of what the government is doing. We have heard internet usage, phone numbers, call duration, time of day and geographic location are being collected in a systemic, ongoing basis. The government needs to demonstrate that infringements on the right to privacy are necessary, proportionate and used only for legitimate purposes. The NSA and other security agencies CAN release this type of information without breaching security, and the public deserves to have an open discussion based on fact. The revelations point to yet another roll-back of human rights in the name of national security -- ranging from indefinite detention at Guantanamo to secrecy about drone killings to impunity for torture -- that we have been campaigning against for years. Take a stand for our rights. Demand that President Obama explain the full extent of his mass surveillance program and the checks and balances in place, if any. In solidarity,

We will not accept Donald Trump's bigotry, homophobia, sexism, racism, xenophobia, authoritarianism, ignorance and stupidity. Already our democratic republic has been replaced by oligarchy. What next, outright fascism? As our articles will show, Trump is following the path of Adolf Hitler as a passive, confused media grovels for access.
