A STATEMENT THAT EVANGELICAL FUNDAMENTALISTS WOULD REJECT

The God of the Bible calls for the practice of social justice, the pursuit of peacemaking, the protection of the poor in the formation of the community.  Two themes are repeatedly found in the Old Testament:  The dangers of idol worship, including warnings about national idolatry, and the need to take care of the poor.  A religious agenda which is a blend of nationalism and extreme individualism, including worship of country and flag, is forcefully condemned in many passages of the Bible.
