Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) became so frustrated with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday that he made a botched attempt to compare her to North Korea.
While debating whether health services were really free to the consumer under the Affordable Care Act, Shimkus eventually interrupted the secretary and refused to let her finish answering his question.
“It’s like talking to the Republic of Korea or something,” he said, throwing up his hand.
Shimkus was attempting to reference North Korea, which is formally called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The Republic of Korea refers to South Korea.
Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) pleaded with the chair that Sebelius be allowed to answer the question, setting of a shouting match between the two congressmen.
“I do not have to allow her to answer the question!” Shimkus exclaimed.
