The US drone program seems to be unstoppable, no matter what the public, the judiciary, or world opinion thinks about it. Whether used for weaponized foreign assault or domestic civilian surveillance, many unresolved questions remain concerning its use, it's legality, its effectiveness, its practicality, its potential for misuse, the collateral damage and unintended consequences. Forget all those issues, though, our government is plowing ahead, just having announced that five states have been chosen to be the recipients of five training sites for the development of drones to be used for domestic surveillance. Through what open process our representatives in government decided to proceed with this program, who knows? The public has expressed some major questions and reservations, but so far, they have not been heard. A monstrosity of a program is developing in our midst, all in the past ten years. Can brakes be applied, or is it just a new, however unwanted, fact of 21st century life?
