HESSELL ON "TO GOP 'WLEFARE' IS A FILTHY WORD

Bill Hessell shared your blog post on Google+
For the past 100 years, the leadership of the Republican Party has initially fought against every major piece of social welfare legislation that has been proposed, whether social security, unemployment insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, affordable care act, federal aid to public education, environmental protection, food and drug safety laws, worker safety laws, consumer protection laws, etc., the list could continue indefinitely. The last republican president, Teddy Roosevelt to enact environmental protection measures and anti-monopoly, anti-trust laws was literally run out of the party. To the GOP, common good equals welfare equals socialism equals communism equals oppression, and who wouldn't be against that? Their leaders know better than that, but if they can sell that faulty reasoning to a segment of the general public, they can win elections. And they have, allowing them to continue to serve the select interests of those in the upper echelons of our nations financial hierarchy while claiming to be acting in the best interests of the public as a whole. The results of their policies suggest otherwise. Democratic leadership under Clinton and Obama unfortunately hasn't done much better. Obama now is claiming he will focus on income inequality as a primary issue to be addressed. We will see.
TO GOP "WELFARE" iS A FILTHY WORD
