Bill Hessell shared your blog post on Google+ This insightful article about the American Right's view that higher education has no value is very revealing--not surprising that the extremists on the Right want the rest of America to share their views and be as ill informed as they are. There is a serious problem with the funding of public education in the US, as during the past 30 years it has been underfunded in many states and at the federal level, with the right-wing systematically promoting this reduction of support. The results of this reduction are dramatic, elementary and secondary test levels dropping significantly, less diversity in higher education admissions, shrinking middle class, more people falling into poverty. Education is a key element in the success of a nation, for it to not receive enthusiastic support from all quarters is irresponsible. To add to it, the right-wing spreads much mis-information, listen to their media and it is obvious--anti-science, anti-progress, turn back the clock, advancement and change are just too threatening. Their true motivation? Your guess is as good as mine, but it has to be self-serving, certainly not in keeping with the best interests of the progress of society.
